V&V SUPREMO STABS WORKERS, COMMUNITY IN THE BACK:
Locks Out Returning Production Workers,
Offers Pay Cuts in Negotiations
Community Coalition Back on Campaign Mood,
Holds Strike Fund Benefit 11/30 at Teamster City
V&V Supremo has violated the spirit of an agreement
with its Teamster
workers that led distribution employees to approve a
contract and
production workers to return to their jobs after
almost seven months on
strike.
Based on V&V's promise to negotiate in good faith with
production
workers,
more than 90 of them voted to suspend their strike and
go back to work.
But, when distribution employees returned to work
Monday, the company
locked out their fellow production workers, a move
that prompted
Teamsters
703 to file additional charges with the National Labor
Relations Board.
In addition, the company has decided to mock the
workers hope that a
contract would be negotiated in good faith. Not only
did the company
not
offer a significant economic package as part of
contract negotiations,
but
PAY CUTS for all the workers.
The company has to understand, as do the workers'
supporters, that its
proposal is unacceptable. Furthermore, it represents
an unspeakable
betrayal to the workers and the community that has
rallied on their
half.
Each time we think the company has committed the worst
possible
violation
of the workers' rights, they manage to stoop even
lower. Now, right
before
Christmas, they have done it again.
This means our community campaign will continue. Our
first task will be
to
build a strike fund to support the workers in this new
phase. PLEASE
