TOTAL VICTORY FOR TRINITY CAFETERIA WORKERS! CHARTWELLS WILL CUT NO HOURS!

Back in early October, Chartwells gave Trinity College's cafeteria workers
two weeks notice that they would cut 250 hours per week from the
workers'schedules, resulting in the loss of 5 benefit-level jobs, 2 layoffs
and almost $100,000 in lost wages per year.

But a massive and militant coalition of workers, students, faculty and
Hartford community leaders mounted a solidarity campaign - leafletting,
rallies, marches, stickers, petitions, picket lines and solidarity actions
by other unionized Chartwells workers. We knocked Chartwells off course and
the cuts were delayed, first for a few weeks, then until next semester.

However, with more disruptive student and worker actions on the horizon,
Chartwells decided it couldn't take any more. They've now promised there
will be NO CUTS for the remainder of the school year. All that's left now
is to work out details on moving some hours from one dining facility to
another.

Thanks to everyone who supported the Trinity workers in this campaign -
especially to V.O.I.D. and the other student activists at Trinity. I hope
this is only the beginning stages of a growing student-labor movement in
Connecticut. Let's take this fight to every campus and workplace in the
state! See you at the next student-labor meeting in February.

In solidarity,

Jeremy Haicken
