Midwest Regional USAS Conference coming to UW-Madison!
The University of Wisconsin-Madison will be hosting the second annual Midwest Regional USAS Conference from January 25th-27th. In the past, USAS Regional Conferences have been a way for students, labor leaders, and educators to come together and share experiences and ideas for building an inclusive movement dedicated to working and supporting the labor community. During the conference, we will be featuring:
Campaign and Skills Based Workshops
Some of the topics to be covered are:
Day Labor Farm-Worker Rights
Living Wages Organizing Challenges in the Global Economy
Graduate Student Organizing Popular Education Presentations
The Workers Rights Consortium Structure and Role of Unions in the Workplace
Sweat Free Campus Campaign GrassRoots Organizing Training (G.R.O.W.)
International Solidarity The Prison Industrial Complex
High School Activism Organizing Against Forms of Oppression
Specific USAS Campaigns (such as the New Era Cap Company)
The Midwest Region in USAS includes the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and (sometimes) North and South Dakota.
To register for the USAS Midwest Regional Conference, please send an email to: chicagoslap@hotmail.com. Include your name, telephone number, school or organization, number of people coming from your group, and your eating preference (e.g vegan, vegetarian, or meat). Housing during the weekend will be provided in one of the three forms: crash (at a UW-Madison students’ residence), co-op (at a cooperative house in Madison), or a hostel. Crash housing will be free, while co-op and hostel housing will be relatively cheap (e.g. $5/person). We are also asking a registration fee for the conference of $5/person, which will be used towards food during the weekend. Checks, cash, money orders, or monopoly money (can be made out to Tom Cogswell or Lenore Palladino) may be given upon registration or sent to the following address prior to the conference:
