Midwest Regional USAS Conference coming to UW-Madison!

The University of Wisconsin-Madison will be hosting the second annual Midwest Regional USAS Conference from January 25th-27th.  In the past, USAS Regional Conferences have been a way for students, labor leaders, and educators to come together and share experiences and ideas for building an inclusive movement dedicated to working and supporting the labor community.  During the conference, we will be featuring:

 Campaign and Skills Based Workshops

Some of the topics to be covered are:

Day Labor                                            Farm-Worker Rights

Living Wages                                       Organizing Challenges in the Global Economy

Graduate Student Organizing                   Popular Education Presentations

The Workers Rights Consortium            Structure and Role of Unions in the Workplace

Sweat Free Campus Campaign            GrassRoots Organizing Training (G.R.O.W.)

International Solidarity                                  The Prison Industrial Complex

High School Activism                                   Organizing Against Forms of Oppression

Specific USAS Campaigns (such as the New Era Cap Company)

The Midwest Region in USAS includes the states of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and (sometimes) North and South Dakota.

To register for the USAS Midwest Regional Conference, please send an email to:  chicagoslap@hotmail.com.  Include your name, telephone number, school or organization, number of people coming from your group, and your eating preference (e.g vegan, vegetarian, or meat).  Housing during the weekend will be provided in one of the three forms:  crash (at a UW-Madison students’ residence), co-op (at a cooperative house in Madison), or a hostel.  Crash housing will be free, while co-op and hostel housing will be relatively cheap (e.g. $5/person).  We are also asking a registration fee for the conference of $5/person, which will be used towards food during the weekend.  Checks, cash, money orders, or monopoly money (can be made out to Tom Cogswell or Lenore Palladino) may be given upon registration or sent to the following address prior to the conference:
