UNITE is now hiring a full-time organizer/campaigner to work out of UNITE's
General Office in New York City, on the union's growing Sweat-Free Uniforms
campaign.

*********** CAMPAIGN SUMMARY
UNITE is working with other unions, elected leaders, and community
allies to secure decent jobs for the thousands of garment workers who make
uniforms by making sure that union members who have to wear uniforms on the
job (such as firefighters and bus drivers) are able to wear uniforms made
under non-sweatshop conditions, in union shops. For more info, see UNITE's

Uniforms Organizer
Department or Director(s): Industry Development
Location: 1710 Broadway
Bargaining Unit: FOUR
Level: Professional
Reports to: Director of Industry Development

Summary:
The Uniforms Organizer position is responsible for coordinating and
organizing actions and other activities across the country for UNITE's
Sweat-Free Uniforms campaign, to ensure that union members who wear uniforms
are wearing union-made, sweat-free uniforms. By mobilizing the membership
of UNITE and other unions against sweatshops in this sector, the position
helps to support UNITE jobs and build industrial leverage for the union.

Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
· Coordinate and organize actions and other national/regional activities of
the campaign.
· Mobilize support from key political and labor movement allies.
· Build relationships and motivate action among diverse constituencies,
including UNITE members and staff, and leaders and activists in other unions
and allied constituencies.
· Maintain communication within UNITE and its affiliates and other unions
and organizations concerning this campaign.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:
· College degree or equivalent is preferred.
· Proven track record of working energetically and independently.
· Organizing skills, including the ability to plan and organize actions and
help mobilize turnout, and at least some labor/activist organizing
experience.
· Project planning skills, including the ability to bring a project from
concept to execution, and to coordinate multiple pieces of complex
campaigns.
· Excellent writing and communication skills.
