Send Solidarity Letters to Workers at the BJ&B factory and THE INDONESIA FACTORY
USAS Involved in International Solidarity Efforts At The BJ&B Factory in the Dominican Republic and an Undisclosed Factory in Indonesia – Both Produce Caps For U.S. Universities and Colleges
What Is Going On In The Indonesia Cap Factory ?
After months of persistence in the face of intimidation from the management, the workers union at the Indonesia factory are planning to go into contract negotiations in the next couple weeks. At this negotiation they will address the workplace violations they experience on a daily basis. USAS has been requested by the union leaders to write solidarity letters of support and encouragement to the workers as they prepare to go into negotiation. The future need for a USAS campaign in conjunction with the workers independent union organizing drive is probable as the workers union goes into contract negotiations. What Is Going On At The BJ&B Cap FactorY ?
Workers at BJ&B have been trying to organize a union for a long time. A couple months ago, several key organizers were fired. Workers are intimidated and threatened if they take part in the union or even support the union indirectly. Forming a strong union in order to go into contract negotiations is priority right now. Therefore, organizers at BJ&B have requested USAS to send letters of solidarity to support the workers organizing efforts and to persist through the managements union-busting tactics and rumours that the company might cut-and-run.
