PROGRAM ASSISTANT - ENVIRONMENT
The Nathan Cummings Foundation is seeking a Program Assistant .in our
Environment Program. This position offers a unique opportunity to
participate in the many diverse aspects of Foundation grantmaking and
through interaction with other program areas to observe the Foundation's
work on social and economic justice.
The Nathan Cummings Foundation is a national grantmaking organization
dedicated to the well-being of all people. Its program areas include arts,
health, environment, and Jewish Life. The Foundation's approach to
grantmaking recognizes several basic themes throughout all its programs:
concern for the poor and disadvantaged; attention to the welfare of future
generations; respect for cultural differences; empowerment; leadership
development; and education.
The Foundation has a professional but informal work style. With a staff of
21 and assets of $400 million, the Foundation primarily awards grants in
the United States. The Foundation's annual grants budget is approximately
$20 million.
Areas of responsibility:
The Environment Program Assistant provides administrative and support
services to the Environment Program Director in the fulfillment of her
responsibilities to the foundation in developing and presenting dockets and
other grantmaking activities. The Program Assistant will have
opportunities to be responsible for special projects within the Environment
program area as well as in general office support services.
Working relationships:
The Environment Program Assistant reports to the Environment Program
Director and the Director of Administration and Resources. The Program
Director will have responsibility for the overall coordination and
supervision of Program Assistant's work in conjunction with the Director of
Administration and Resources who has the responsibility to ensure the
smooth administrative support operations of the foundation's office. The
Program Assistant is a critical liaison between the Program Director and
all operating areas of the Foundation and in this capacity works closely
with the Director of Administration and Resources.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an energetic person with a good sense of
humor. S/he will be a team player with excellent organizational and
administrative skills, self-directed, and will have the ability to
simultaneously handle several projects and establish priorities. S/he will
also have excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills and must possess
strong computer skills, preferably with the Macintosh system. College
degree preferred. Previous experience in the non-profit sector, knowledge
of, and a background and/or interest in social justice issues are
desirable, but not necessary.
