There are two spots open for elections this April. Terms are one year long.
If an incumbent wishes to continue to serve on the governing board, they
must run again for re-election at the end of their year-long term. Students
intending to go abroad may apply, but it would be extremely difficult to
participate on the board while studying abroad. The remaining three spots
on the board will be up for election in January, at the end of their term.
The job description includes
- Update USAS at least once a month through the listserves.
- When possible attend national and regional conferences as well as
leadership retreats. At least a minimum of 2 board reps should be at any
leadership retreats
- Self evals every 6 months
- Represent USAS and actively advocate for workers at board
meetings-each of us should try to talk to 2 schools in our regions as well
as a Regional Organizer and/or Coordinating Committee rep before each board
meeting to see how they feel about things that will be on the next board
meetings agenda
- Filter info to USAS about possible new campaigns
- Make sure the workers voices are always being heard
- Term is one year and can have more than one term
- Regular communication with regional organizers and CC
- Have a board rep participate in committees including the ISC,ABC,CCSC and
campaign talks
- Coordinate WRC campaigns among schools
The current USAS representatives to the WRC board will review applications
and choose finalists by considering the above criteria, as well as the need
for diversity in the areas of class, gender, LGBTQ, and race. Other factors
in selecting finalists will be region and school size. USAS will then vote
for its representatives according to the same process by which it elected
the current representatives: applications will be sent out over the USAS
e-mail list, and USAS groups will have one week to review the applications.
Each USAS group will vote for its two choices for representatives. Elections
themselves are currently scheduled for Monday, April 8th-22nd. Further
information about the voting process itself will be sent out with the
completed applications.
A rough timeline of the process is as follows:
March 12- Application sent out
March 27-applications due
April 1- release applications for review by all of USAS
April-8-22-voting on applicants by local USAS groups
May 1-announce election winners
June 3- board meeting
Terms on the board do not officially begin until June 3rd, immediately after
the next meeting of the WRC governing board.
