and Haverford College.

we are asking everyone to write letters to the Philadelphia District

Dear Ms. Abraham:

I am writing to urge you to drop all charges against the 16 members and
supporters of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union who were arrested on
Wednesday, March 20 for moving two homeless families into a vacant house
located at 1910 Cambria Street.

These individuals, welfare recipients and college students, were
defending Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which
clearly asserts that housing is a right for all.

In addition to signing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the
United States created the Stewart B. McKinney Act in 1987, guaranteeing
that 10% of suitable Federal properties categorized as unutilized,
underutilized, excess, or surplus be used to assist homeless persons.

Yet Pennsylvania has not complied with this legislation, and the lack of
affordable housing in Philadelphia creates an intolerable situation of
forced homelessness for thousands of men, women, and children throughout the
city. No house should stand abandoned while families sleep on the streets.

The 16 individuals who moved into an abandoned house with two homeless
families did so because their consciences demanded it. As a supporter of the
national campaign of Campuses United to End Homelessness, I applaud this
action and the people who performed it, and I implore you to take a moral
stance by dropping all charges against them.

Sincerely,

concerned student

No one should be homeless in Philadelphia when there are 40,000
abandoned houses and 25,000 homeless people in philadelphia pa.
