[usas] Dada Workers - Solidarity Letters - Pictures

Hello All,

The workers at the PT. Dada factory in Indonesia loved your solidarity letters so much that they would like to keep corresponding with you.

Please see the photos attached of workers reading your letters. Sorry, we had to darken the faces of these workers for their safety (this was the request of the workers themselves).

Please take a moment to write back to them about your campus groups events on the April 4^th Student Labour Day of Actions; and send them pictures of your actions.

Pasted below and attached to this email you will find an updated sample solidarity letter, both in Bahasa Indonesia and in English, that you can use as a model.

• “Thank you so much for the letters of support! I once thought that we were all alone in our struggle for justice, but now I know that was just my own misperception.”

• "Thank you for sending pictures and thoughts to brighten our days. I hope we receive more pictures because I real like seeing what you all look like."

• “Ya, Kita Bisa!” “Si Se Puede!” – the most popular phrase on letters that stirred quite a conversation!

• "Thank you, for all the wishes for strength and success in our struggle. I know that through working together we will be able to have both strength and success."

• "Sometimes I feel very sad and that our efforts and struggle is impossible and not worth it.  But your letters have given me new strength and inspiration. Please write again. Some day I hope I will be able to write you some good news."

Please write the letters in Bahasa Indonesia since we do not currently have the translation capacity. However, if there are certain additional phrases that you want to include, go ahead and write them in English, and attach a note with your letters saying which part needs to be translated.

Hello Friends at PT Dada Indonesia,

Thank you for all of your hard work making hats and stuffed animals for universities, including my campus. Whenever I see the hats and toys bearing my university’s logo I remember that good people like you are making these things and struggling each day. Knowing this, I am inspired to struggle with you for justice in the workplace.

I have read the WRC report on your factory and I am very moved by your story. I think it is terrible that you have to work in such conditions and I hope that things improve in your workplace. I am doing all that I can to see that my school works with the buyers to see that the recommendations in the report are implemented.

My friends and I here are thinking about you often and sending you our solidarity. We are with you in your struggle. We wish you courage, spirit/energy, safety, and success in your struggle.
