Hi. I wanted to second some points in this email, and also give some of the faculty/religious groups credit also. (My name is Tina Post, I am the Campaign to End Sweatshops Coordinator for NYPIRG.) I drafted the SUNY/CUNY bill language, with tremendous help from the Labor-Religion Coalition, the UUP, and NYSUT. PSC has also taken a stance in favor of the bill. A couple of incidentals:

1. The SUNY/CUNY bill content is now attached to another bill UNITE is lobbying for...sorry if that is confusing. Anyone who wants info on the larger bill can call me (212) 349-6460. The bill numbers are (Senate)  S6352-A, and (Assembly) A10440. Although there doesn't seem to be any real opposition, that doesn't mean that the bill is a priority for those deciding which bills are addressed shortly (or at all). Feel free to call your legislators (New York Staters) or leadership to encourage them to pass the bill quickly.

2. Absolutely, just because the bill passes doesn't mean anything will change. Each campus needs to work to join the WRC on a case by case basis. Some are well -poised to do this (props to Cortland) and some will have a long haul. NYPIRG has campus chapters doing anti-sweat work on 19 NYS campuses. If you are a USASer on one of those campuses, please find our organizers if we haven't already found you. So many campuses has the student strength to make this happen if we really work together to build a campus 'roots campaign. Also, some of our chapters have met with administrator to see how receptive they are to the WRC, address what concerns they may have, etc. If you want to know our impressions of their receptiveness campus-by-campus, please call me.

Thanks so much for your help and support. Peace,

Tina
