This is out to you a little later than I had hoped but I am very excited to
tell you that we have the confirmed placement locations for the Hotel
Employees and Restaurant Employees Union (HERE) internship program.
Participating HERE locals will be in upstate New York, Connecticut,
Baltimore, Washington DC, New York City and Cincinnati.
However, I would encourage you to apply because we will pay transportation
and accommodations costs in addition to the stipend for students who are
placed in a community where they don't live.
This will be the third year that our union runs a summer internship program.
Feedback from students who have participated has been amazing -we put on a
great training and then had students work on active organizing campaigns.
That means student interns do housevisits, participate in union meetings,
gather lists and contacts of workers and organize solidarity from community
and faith groups for workers fighting for the right to organize.
HERE has an innovative organizing program. I would be happy to answer any of

HERE 2002: PAID INTERNSHIPS
WORK FOR JUSTICE WITH THE HOTEL EMPLOYEES AND RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES
UNION (HERE)
- Fight for economic justice
- Investigate the global food corporations that profit on college
campuses
- Participate in actions with food service and hotel workers
HERE, the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union
is organizing hotel, food service and gaming workers nationwide. HERE
has been organizing food service workers on college campuses and
believes in creating strong student-labor alliances to hold the
college administration accountable for fair and just working
conditions on campus.
HERE will be offering 20 paid summer internship for students who are
committed to being part of these student-labor alliances. The
internship will last five weeks and include both training and actual
hands on experience organizing workers in HERE local unions.
When: 5 weeks from Wednesday June 12 to Wednesday July 17 beginning
with four days of training in grassroots organizing and corporate
research skills.
Field Training: All interns will be placed with HERE locals to work on
active organizing campaigns. Participating locals are in upstate New York,
Connecticut, Baltimore, Washington DC, New York City and Cincinnati.
Stipend: $250 per week plus we provide housing and transportation.
