Through their college and university endowments, students were
very successful during the 1980s in persuading colleges and
universities not only to vote for but to sponsor shareholder
proposals on U.S. companies doing business in South Africa.
While there has been quite a lull in this activity, this year students
at Swarthmore College were successful in persuading their college
to sponsor a resolution requesting Lockheed Martin to adopt an
EEO statement/non-discrimination policy barring discrimination
based on sexual orientation.

Many colleges and universities with USAS chapters on campus,
also have proxy voting committees that include student input.

Good luck. Peter
