To USAS members:
I'm not completely sure whether this is the right forum for my question, but I'm hoping one of you can at least tell me where else to look for help.
I'm a junior at a small private high school in Boston. I've been interested in the movement to end sweatshops for a while now, and I've just recently started an anti-sweatshop group at my school in an effort to raise awareness and establish a Code of Conduct. I am going to have to go before the Board of Trustees soon to propose that we adopt a Code of Conduct. I know they will have many questions about why we should do it and how it would work, and I need to be able to defend it. Obviously, with a school of our size (about 140 students), there will be problems with enforcing a code of conduct because we don't have much heft to put behind it. I am honestly not sure what kind of policy we ought to use, because it is unlikely companies will respond to our pressure. Eventually I hope to establish some sort of coalition with other highschools in our area so our codes would carry more weight, but at the moment, as far as I know, no schools here have codes fo conduct. Any advice you could give us based on your experience with establishing codes of conduct in universities would be greatly appreciated. Even if you don't have any specific advice, please take this as a small affirmation that the next generation of activists is eager to follow the standard you've set! Keep up all your good work and thank you in advance,
