Dear Usas,
Today, April 27, Indiana University No Sweat! participated in two
seperate actions; however, unfortunatly both were cut short quickly by the
wonderful workers of Kroger Managment and College Mall Security.
Our first action started at 10:15 at Kroger. We handed out leaflets and
held signs asking Kroger custormers not to buy Mt. Olive Pickles which
FLOC currently has a campaign advocating. We were treated very politely
and with respect but were unfortunatly asked to vacate early since our
standing outside beside the door blocked the flow of custormers.
Still overall, the reception was warm by the customers who were happy to
be advised on the cucumber pickers struggles.
After being booted from Kroger by 11:00, we went for some quick
nourishment before heading to our second action, outside the Sears in
Bloomington College mall where we leafletted for the workers of Brylane
Distribution Center in Indianapolis who have been prevented from
organizing a Union. Unfortunatly again, it seems as though we just were
not lucky today since the moment we approached the door, a security
officer was checking the entrace on his rounds. While the majority of our
group turned to aviod the security, two members did not notice and we
taken inside to speak with management. While inside the rest continued to
place fliers where we could (magazine bins, clothinging racks, store
counters, etc as we avoided the monitoring eyes of many store management
officials. Soon enough, a rather large security guard began following
three members who walked the store quietly not to attract attention. The
rather portly athority after realizing his sheer size had not intimidated
the fair labor advocates approached, accused and quarrelled with the
members ultimatly forcing them to leave by 12:15.
Thus, comes another entry in the labor activists difficult struggle
against corporate tycoons and fat security officers.
