 HI,
the National Coalition for the Homeless works on poverty issues accross a
number of issues; health care, economics, housing and civil rights. The
Student Campaign against hunger and homelessness is represnted on our board.
One of the areas we work heavily on is the issue of day labor, and the
abuses in the system that perpetuate poverty. We would love to offer a
discussion panel, or workshop at your forum.
Thank You

CALLING ALL STUDENT LABOR ACTIVISTS

The Student Labor Action Committee at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore,
Maryland is co-sponsoring a forum to discuss the issue of urban poverty and
the major role universities play in the cause or solution to poverty in
urban areas. The forum, taking place on a Saturday in September this year,
will be a series of panel debates and discussions ending in a large forum to
address the issue of poverty in Baltimore.

The event is co-sponsored (and funded) by the same administration we have
been fighting for years in a Living Wage Campaign. They will be inviting
"their team" from different universities and we will be inviting "our team,"
optimally from the same universities. Participating in the forum will be
representatives from Universities in the Baltimore-Washington area, and we
are looking for representatives from active student-labor groups around the
country. Please let us know if your group might be willing to attend such a
conference!

Aside from these speakers/discussants, we need student activists from around
the country to participate in this forum! organization and we need YOUR
input! There will be student panel discussions so we can share our views on
the causes of poverty in the cities where we attend school. We are
interested to know the role that you think your university plays in its
respective city. This is an opportunity to discuss your organization’s
campaign and to learn from other student activists about their campaigns.

So send out the word to anyone who may be interested. Any suggestions for
speakers or discussants would be greatly appreciated. For more information
concerning the forum and how you can attend contact ("Respond to All" or cut
and paste from "CC" for an easy response):
