Western Massachusetts Jobs with Justice Organizer

Nationally, Jobs with Justice is a growing activist coalition of labor,
community, and religious organizations working together to build support
for the struggles of working people by building strong links between the
labor movement and the community. There are over 40 local Jobs with
Justice coalitions. Western Mass Jobs with Justice is 30 organizations
engaged in innovative community-based organizing for economic justice.

We are hiring an Organizer.

Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to building a social
justice movement, including two years organizing experience (volunteer
experience qualifies) in a labor or community setting. Administrative
tasks will include fundraising, grant writing, and working closely with
the Steering Committee, representing the member organizations, and its
Executive Committee. Organizing responsibilities will primarily be in
the areas of the coalition's work supporting local labor struggles and
community organizing, including a Living Wage Campaign and efforts to
win global economic justice. Women and people of color are encouraged
to apply.

50% Administration:

. Fundraising and grant writing
. Coordination with other JwJ coalitions
. Work with Treasurer to keep track of budget
. Coordinate mailings, newsletter, and solidarity announcements

50% Organizing:

. Support for local labor struggles
. Union relationship building and follow-up
. Support for Organizational Members' work, such as Right to
Organize campaigns, health care organizing, low income community
organizing, Living Wage Campaign, and global economic justice
. Student outreach

Required Qualifications and Skills:

. Two years of organizing experience in a labor or community
setting
. Demonstrated commitment to building a social justice movement
. Written and oral communication skills
. Ability to communicate with a wide range of people
. Ability to work collaboratively with the Steering Committee and
its Executive Committee
. Commitment to developing rank and file leadership
. Capacity for creative and strategic thinking
. Ability to motivate coalition members and rank and file workers
. Driver's license and vehicle a necessity; some travel is
required
. Must be available for evening and weekend work

Additional Qualifications and Skills Desired:

. Bilingual a plus, especially English-Spanish
. Computer and database skills
. Experience working in coalitions
. Fundraising and grant writing experience

20 to 30 hours per week--may expand to full-time. Salary pro-rated
based on a full-time salary range of $30,000-$35,000 depending on
experience. Benefits provided. Some schedule flexibility.
