Friends and allies,
USAS regrets to inform you that, due to circumstances beyond our
control, THE USAS CONFERENCE FOR THIS YEAR, PLANNED FOR AUG 8-11 AT
TUFTS UNIVERSITY, HAS BEEN CANCELLED. The city of Medford, where Tufts
is located, has experienced serious problems with their power cables,
and Tufts will simply not have the electrical capability to host the
large gathering that so many in USAS have been planning and looking
forward to for so long. After several days of considering and
frantically pursuing alternatives, the conference planners have come to
the conclusion that trying to relocate with only three weeks left would
be impractical and irresponsible for a conference of this magnitude.
This was an incredibly difficult and sad decision to make, and your
understanding is greatly appreciated.
All registration checks that have been mailed will be sent back
promptly, and USAS leaders: staff, interns, CC members, regional
organizers will be happy to help you work through any problems that
might arise from refunds for travel.
We will decide by Monday July 22 at 5 pm what we will be doing instead
of the large gathering. This could include a smaller affiliate
gathering on the same weekend so please keep the dates open if you can
and we will make another announcement in the next few days about what
will happen instead. If you have any questions or concerns about how to
proceed from here, please do not hesitate to contact any of the leaders
mentioned above, or the USAS office at 202-667-9328,

it should by no means keep us from moving forward with our awesome,
inspiring, important work. Were still In It Together, and were still
building a movement, just in a different way than we had thought. Thank
