Students around the country,

Please support workers at Stanford University. Only a month ago, students slept out in the main quad at Stanford for almost a week to help win incredible victories in contract negotiations between workers and managers at Bon Appetit, who provide dining services at Stanford. Bon Appetit is planning to drastically cut workers hours at Tresidder, the CoHo, and the Graduate School of Business. These cuts will mean that:

1) Most jobs will go from full-time with benefits to part-time without benefits 2) The gains from the contract campaign & student SLEEP-OUT will be lost 3) Workers, including leaders from the contract fight, will be forced out of their jobs because they won't be able to make ends meet on part- time hours 4) Their union--their voice on the job--will be severely weakened

 

Bon Appetit claims they are losing money but it's too coincidental that this announcement comes so soon after the new contract and without even 30 days notice. On their website they say: "We have clients in twenty two states and have over 8,000 employees. We have been in business since 1987 and have seen our revenues grow from $5 million to over $275 million." (http://www.bamco.com/indexfr.html)

This is clearly a retaliation against the workers for asserting their rights at work and a way for Bon Appetit to dodge paying the better wages and benefits that workers won in May. These changes are supposed to take effect in less than 2 weeks, unless we act now! We can't hold a rally during the summer but we can JAM THE PHONES!
