Here is the information on our student conference that Noam Chomsky
will
address.
Please confirm if you are coming to this conference. The charge for the
conference is $15 which includes, food, housing, info. packets, etc.
If you need housing, notify us of your housing needs on both Friday and
Saturday. Please bring a sleeping bag. We will try to arrange for beds
but
you might have to sleep on a couch or even a floor.
The conference will start on Friday, October 18th, 7pm, at the Texas
AFL-CIO
hall, 1106 Lavaca, which is two blocks west of the State Capitol.
On Saturday, we will start with registration from 8 to 9am at Our Lady
of
Guadalupe Church Community Hall, 1206 E. 9th. The community hall is on
the
same block as the church but caticorner from it at the corner of 11th
and
Navasota, five blocks east of IH 35. The church and community hall are
directly east of downtown Austin, which is on the west side of IH 35.
On Sunday, we will hear Chomsky for the second time at UT-Austin. We
will
finish at about 2:30pm.

Texas Student Conference on Alternatives to Corporate Globalization
Texas Fair Trade Coalition is holding a student conference on
October 18-20, 2002 in Austin, Texas. This will be an opportunity for
students from across Texas to meet and discuss globalization issues and
learn how to organize on campus. Distinguished academic and activist
Noam
Chomsky will be the featured speaker. Noam Chomsky will also speak for
free
on Sunday, noon at the UT-Austin. It is first come, first seated at this
event.
Other speakers at the student conference include Professor Robert
Jensen of the University of Texas, Lenore Palladino of United Students
Against Sweatshops, Steve Rendall of Fairness and Accuracy in
Reporting(FAIR), a panel of experienced activists and others.
The tentative agenda for the conference will be as follows:
Friday, October 18 Texas AFL-CIO Bldg, 1106 Lavaca, two blocks west of
State Capitol.
7-10pm: Dr. Robert Jensen, University of Texas - "How mainstream media
work
and how to work with them effectively" Site To Be Determined.
Saturday, October 19, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Community Hall,

8 - 9am: Registration
9 - 11am: Choice of workshops
11am - 12pm: Noam Chomsky
12 - 1:30pm: lunch with music by folk musician Steve Brooks
1:30 - 3:30pm: Choice of workshops
3:30 - 4pm: break
4 - 6:30pm: Multiracial panel of activists/organizers
7pm - Dinner and entertainment
