Around Halloween companies like Mars, Inc (M&Mıs, Milky Way and Snickers)
enjoy their BIGGEST sales to children. Unfortunately, chocolate is no treat
for the hundreds of thousands of children who work on cocoa farms - either
helping their impoverished families or as slaves. While the US chocolate
industry has pledged to child slavery by 2005, they have no provisions for
fair and stable wages- leaving countless children to work long and hard to
bring us chocolate. Fortunately there is a solution- FAIR TRADE, which
guarantees a living wage, prohibits abusive child labor, and gives kids the
opportunity to go to school. Despite growing demand for Fair Trade
chocolate, Mars, Inc. has refused to offer it. We need YOU to HELP to send
Mars, Inc., a strong and clear message for Fair Trade. Please read below

* On Halloween, give your trick-or-treaters our special postcard sets for
kids- one about Fair Trade, another to send for our FREE kidsı Activity Book
and another to send to Mars, Inc!
* Give out Fair Trade chocolate! See our website for a listing of
companies.
* Dress up as an M&M and carry a sign that has the Fair Trade logo and says
³I want to be Fair Trade Certified!² (See
www.globalexchange.org/cocoa/mmmars.html for a picture.) Ask us for help
making your Fair Trade logo sign and getting the Fair Trade logo.
* Ask for our FREE activity book to teach your students and children about
problems on cocoa farms and have them WRITE to M&M/Mars. This is a GREAT
fun and educational activity to work into classroom lessons around
Halloween!
